The Clinical Social Work Association of Savannah’s 26th Annual Julius Hornstein Professional Conference has to be one of the highlights of the professional year. Dr. David Burns brought humor, expertise, controversy, tears of laughter and sadness, silliness and seriousness to his workshop: “Scared Stiff: Fast Effective Treatment for Anxiety Disorders.”
His dynamic approach showed how to rapidly and effectively address the problems that many people with anxiety disorders face. However, his presentation style might just be more dynamic. Role play, video, psycho-Socratic questions, self-deprecating humor, and audience participation - including a group “silly dance” - complimented the delivery of some very valuable theoretical and practical information on the topic.
So, thanks David for helping us feel good and do good.
Also, thanks to Helen Schandolph and her crew for pulling this all together. You all did a spectacular job and we are grateful.
And, the conference would not have happened without the support of our outstanding sponsors: Recovery Place, Coastal Harbor Health System, Saint Leo University, Saint Simons by the Sea, University of Georgia School of Social Work, Savannah State University School of Social Work, and Valdosta State University Social Work.
